My cat seems to have severe breathing problems?

Her breathing is very labored. I listen to her and it sounds like wheezing. If she were human I'd say she was asthmatic.

I had a cat before this one who lived for 16 years, so I'm quite familiar with cats. Her breathing just doesn't sound normal.

She has a very thick coat and does a LOT of shedding. I want to take her to be groomed but she's very cranky/uncooperative and I doubt any groomer would be willing to work with her. If it is indeed asthma then I wonder whether all her hair is a factor.

But, I'm not sure about taking her to a vet because vets will always tell you there's about 10 different things that are wrong with your cat which can only be cured by thousands of dollars worth of antibiotics, surgery, etc.,

My cat in his old age had breathing problems and it was definitely asthma. There is not much we were able to do about it. The vet prescribed a steam generator - vaporizer - with some medication in it, but it didn't help. Taking him camping helped and I think prolonged his life for a few years. We were worried that he would run away, and he did, but he always came back. But he got his breath back bounding free across meadows. Sounds funny, but that's a true story.

You need to go to a vet despite your feelings. It does sound like your cat may have allergies. Our cat does this and our vet said to see if it worsens and then bring him back in. So far, it's not too bad and usually only happens when he is excited or has just gotten done running like mad through the house. I would go to the vet and let them know what you suspect it is, and then go from there. You owe it to your cat. They rely on you. Good luck!

go to the vet at once.

My cat seems to have severe breathing problems?

i agree witht he other posts take your cat to the vet at once. my moms cats were like that and they had asthma :( sounds weird but very true and if your cat does have that then like once every 3 months you'd have to take themt o get a shot but only if their breathing is acting up like this Jim is now 11 yrs old and hardly has problems
